Briar Cliff University Unveils New Website

On Tuesday, May 4, Briar Cliff University rolled out a brand-new website. It has been quite some time since any major updates have been made to the school page. According to BCU Marketing Specialist Erin McElroy, the last time the old website was updated was around 10 years ago.


“In 2011 they refreshed the design of the home page of our current site to add a header video and make it look more modern, but the back-end system that powers the site was built in 2005,” McElroy says. “Needless to say, it was time for some updates and improvements.”


With advancements in technology and the internet during that time period, BCU’s old website was falling behind. Ben Hamilton, a junior computer science and graphic design major, is one of the interns also working on the new website. He agreed that it was time for something new, as the old website was slow and hard to navigate at times.


“I feel like on the old website, sometimes you go to look for something and you don’t know where to start so you just click off the website,” Hamilton says.


BCU teamed up with a company out of Des Moines, Iowa, Blue Compass, to create the new website. Blue Compass is a leading digital marketing agency that focuses on web design, development, and search engine optimization.


With the help of Briar Cliff University's Title 3 Grant and a few other private donors initiatives, the funding for Briar Cliff University’s website came to life.

McElroy says.


According to McElroy, Blue Compass created the backend of the website, which included the coding and technical aspects, and they also created the central management system, known as a CMS. The CMS is what the BCU Marketing Department uses to make changes to the website moving forward..


The new website has been designed with audiences in mind. It boasts upgraded features such as faster loading times, streamlined navigation, loads of new content, and more.


“It is so much more aesthetically pleasing,” Hamilton says. “It is not as clunky, everything works smooth. It is all put together, and everything has a purpose.”


The unveiling is the final step of a long process.


“We know it's going to be a huge improvement for not only our future Chargers and our current students, but also our alumni and donors,” McElroy says. “We really built it with our audiences in mind, and it's kind of been a long time coming, a project with a lot of hands and a lot of people to thank at Briar Cliff. It's a good thing, it's really exciting.”
