Briar Cliff University Women’s Soccer Team Hires New Coach

Clark Charlestin has been hired as the new head coach for the BCU women’s soccer team.

“I am excited to be back at the Cliff again and start a new journey, now as a head coach.”

Charlestin has a past relationship with Briar Cliff. In 2017 and 2018, he was the assistant coach for the men’s soccer team. Later on, in 2019, he completed his masters in Management and Leadership at the university. He left the Cliff after that year.

“I felt it was the right time to explore and test my skills in a different environment,” Charlestin says. “My time away from Briar Cliff helped me grow as a leader in more ways than I could imagine. It gave me a chance to test my principles and see some of my ideas come to life.”

After Charlestin left the Cliff in 2019, he went to Waldorf University, located in Forest City, Iowa. He held the position of assistant coach at Waldorf for one year. In June of 2020 another opportunity came up, and he accepted an assistant coaching job for the women’s soccer team at the University of the Cumberlands in Corbin, Kentucky.

After two years away from the Cliff, an opportunity to come back to the Cliff arose. There was an open head coach position for the women’s soccer team and he did not have to think twice.

“When the opportunity came up to return to Briar Cliff in a head coaching position, it was an intriguing idea,” Charlestin says. “My values and principles matched with the institution and having past relationships on campus made it a great fit.”

Charlestin is the new head coach of a BCU women’s soccer team that won a GPAC championship this fall. He has high expectations when it comes to the upcoming GPAC tournament, as well as the national tournament.

“With the GPAC tournament coming up, we are putting our minds and energy towards that,” says Charlestin. “It will be a huge accomplishment for the program and the university.”

The BCU women’s soccer team will start the GPAC tournament in April, and their new coach, Clark Charlestin, is expecting big things from the team.
