It's Gotcha! Season at BCU

Gotcha! That is what many students and some faculty will be yelling throughout the month of February at Briar Cliffas they try to win a Cowboys and Aliens spin off game called Gotcha!.
Gotcha! is a game that requires students or faculty to throw small, Gotcha! or koosh balls at their specific target sent to them by Director of Student Activities, Brittany Bizila. She says that most students get really into the game, so she had to change the rules this year to allow for a fair win, and not make it so there are no cheaters.
“The rules have changed a bit this year. Students are not allowed to hide out in their room and stuff like they have in the past. You now have 48 hours to get your target out or you, yourself are out,” said Bizila.
The hope with this new rule is that the game will be more involved and progressive. They also want to speed the game up, as it has been known to last as short as two weeks and as long as five weeks.
The rules for this game are simple. You must sign up before the day the game starts, and when it begins at 8 a.m., it is on. You must throw your Gotcha! ball at your target and it can hit any part of them, whether it be hair, the backpack they are wearing, or shoes. Then you must notify Bizila that you have eliminated your target and wait for your new one. Oh, and you must do all of that while not getting out, yourself.
Freshman Madison Ellis said she is extremely nervous to play this game for the first time as she said she has heard stories of how crazy people get while the game is going on.
“The upperclassmen on the soccer team told me that people go crazy to win. They even said that someone jumped out a window to avoid getting hit.”
Ellis said she does not have a plan of attack, but she thinks she will probably team up with some of her teammates from the soccer team.
“I think I am just going to go on with my day and maybe ask my teammates for help if I need it,” said the Omaha native.
2018 Gotcha! winner, Dillon Reynolds, said that his plan of attack this year is the same as last year, just a little more laid back. He said he will be using some of the same strategies this year, too.
“Basically, I check every corner and make sure to stay away from the café. I always have a light backpack just in case I need to take off, and I trust no one and always betray everyone,” said the California native.
Gotcha! begins Wednesday, February 7that 8 a.m. this year and will continue until there is one winner. All participants can sign up Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Student Development office at the front desk where you will receive your Gotcha! ball and the rules.
