Tiger King: The Docuseries You Didn’t Know You Needed

April 23, 2020 | by Julie Knowles

The Netflix Original docuseries, “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness,” is just as chaotic as it sounds. Almost immediately after its release on March 20th, it took social media by storm. The true crime series is one you must see to believe.

Joe Maldonado-Passage, better known as “Joe Exotic,” is an American Zoo Owner in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. The Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park is best known for being one of the largest “big cat” zoos in the world. Exotic is in the middle of a ‘war’ between him and the founder of Big Cat Rescue, Carole Baskin.

Exotic is known for living an abnormal lifestyle. His personality is outspoken, eccentric and derogatory, but it is strangely difficult to not like him. Throughout the series, you delve deeper into the lives of Exotic, Carole Baskin, Bhagavan Antle, Jeff Lowe and other keepers at the zoo. No matter who the focus is on, the story gets crazier and crazier.

My head was spinning just from the first episode. How can a man own over 200 big cats? How can a woman be that obsessed with animal print? Everything about this series was shocking, especially since it’s true. Murder accusations, lifestyle choices, controversial animal treatment, critical injuries, etc. All of he people say and do unspeakable things, but I can almost guarantee you’ll watch the entire series in a matter of a day or two.

Carole Baskin came out of this series with the most hate, even though she hasn’t been convicted of anything. After watching the series, there is a lot of information that makes you strongly believe that she killed her second husband, Don Lewis. She has a demeanor about her that comes off very strong and leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

Personally, I would not be surprised if the accusation was true. She had the motive, means and oddly described how it could’ve happened. It was all very fishy – probably the sardine oil…

To begin to try and fully explain the complexity, stupidity and greatness of this series would take a minute. I highly recommend watching this series merely for the shock value it has. There is not a single dull moment in this series. When things couldn’t get worse, you were very, very mistaken.
